Writing with Christian perspective and empathy, Schmidt
addresses all the main points of the current debate--what the Bible really says
and means about homosexuality; the health effects of homosexual behavior;
whether or not people are born with homosexual orientations; and the cogency of
recent progay reconstructions of history. This book is the most comprehensive,
persuasive and readable Christian book on the subject.

The
Gay Gospel (2007)
Joe Dallas does a great job of dispelling the myths propagated
by pro-gay Christians. The truth is the only thing that will set people free.
The Christian pro-gay agenda is a contrived lie that is destroying souls. The
misuse of data to substantiate homosexuality is frightening. Joe's love and
concern for the souls of homosexuals is what makes this good book a great book.
It takes courage to follow Christ. We can't make up the rules as we go along.
Joe Dallas is a good author.
Welcoming
but Not Affirming: An Evangelical Response to Homosexuality (Paperback)
by Stanley Grenz (1998)
Same-Sex
Partnerships? : A Christian Perspectiveby John R. W. Stott (1998)
Review: This is a short, but very good
book concerning the debate about homosexuality and Christianity. Stott gives a
very clear and concise overview of important issues and arguments in this
debate. He offers some new insights into this issue as well as tackling the
usual arguments. I would recommend this book as a good starting point and
introduction for learning and thinking about homosexuality and Christianity.
Overall I believe the book to be an excellent work that is biblically based.
Stott is concerned not so much with being politically correct, but being
biblically accurate.
Out

(Paperback) by Donald J. Wold. Baker Pub Group (October 30, 1998). 238 pages.
Review: A marvelous resource for scholars
and lay researchers who seek to defend the traditional biblical viewpoint on
homosexuality. This helpful book explains the context for the scriptural
perspective by explaining how this subject was viewed in ancient cultures. Very
helpful. (Bob Davies, Executive Director, Exodus International North America )

2. Science
Homosexuality
and the Politics of Truth by Jeffrey Satinover. Paperback (January
1996) Baker Book House;
Scientists have not discovered a "homosexual gene."
Homosexuality is not innate ... it can be changed. What does science really
say? Psychiatrist Jeffery Satinover examines what is reported in the popular
press. Much of the research is flawed and most of it says that homosexuality is
changeable: nobody is just "born that way." The model that Dr.
Satinover develops is based on modern science and psychological understanding
of habit, compulsion, and addiction. "Homosexuality, he writes, "is
but one of the many forms of 'soul sickness' that are innate to our fallen
natures." Revered tradition and modern scientific research come together
to offer not just ! compassion but also hope in this startlingly new look at
one of the most contentious issues of our times.
My
Genes Made Me Do It! A Scientific look at Sexual Orientation by Neil L.
Whitehead, Blair Whitehead (1999)
Change is possible We believe the book
is the most current, thorough, clear account, of to what extent homosexuality
is inborn (conclusion: 10%). It also explains how we become heterosexual.
Subjects include incidence, brain studies, hormone studies, twin studies,
culture. It summarises 8 years study on 1700 books, chapters and papers. The
first author has 30 years research experience.
Review: The Whiteheads lay the burden of proof upon those who seem to
have convinced the world that homosexuality is biologically driven. Clearly,
such proof does not exist, according to this study. Science has yet to prove
that homosexuality is anything more than one of the hundreds of choices each of
us makes throughout life. Read this book if you are interested in the truth.
Homosexuality
: The Use of Scientific Research in the Church's Moral Debate by
Stanton L. Jones, Mark A. Yarhouse (2000)
This book is packed with statistics from
research done on various aspects of homosexuality including its prevalance
(2-3% of overall population), possible causes (genetic, abuse, early childhood,
home life, etc.), and rates of success for those people seeking to leave the
homosexual lifestyle (approx 30%).

for what it really is, and is then dealt with in light of Scripture - as a

Restoring
Sexual Identity: Hope for Women Who Struggle with Same-Sex Attraction
(Paperback) by Anne Paulk
Restoring Sexual Identity offers answers to the
most commonly asked questions from both homosexuals desiring change and friends
and relatives of women struggling with samesex attraction. Is lesbianism an
inherited predisposition or is it developed in childhood? Does becoming a
Christian eliminate all desire for members of the same sex? What support is
available for women who struggle with lesbianism? Can a woman be a lesbian and
a Christian at the same time? How does childhood sexual abuse relate to the
development of lesbianism?
The
War Within : Experiencing Victory in the Battle for Sexual Purity by
Robert Daniels They are silent sins, and
therefore some of the most difficult to conquer. The good news is that for men
who are battling pornography, lust and other sexual temptations, God has
provided several means of escape--all specifically fleshed out in this book
through wartime and naval analogies, scriptural teaching and personal
testimony. Complete with discussion questions, this book will take Christian
men to a new level of purity.
Homosexuality
: A New Christian Ethic by Elizabeth R. Moberly
Review: Moberly really hits the nail on
the head with this book on a Christian view on how those dealing with
homosexuality can find healing in Christ. Although the book is written very
much like an essay or research article (which it probably was), the truth
behind what Moberly is saying is rewarding and incredibly insightful. She
offers the view that homosexual leanings are due mostly to a detachment from
the same-sex parent earlier in life. This thought, although incredibly
eye-opening and true, is presented as the ONLY reason and other views may need
to be considered. Great book!
Courage
to Be Chaste by Benedict J. Groeschel
Synopsis Benedict J. Groeschel draws on
his wide experience as a psychologist and cure of souls and offers a practical
guide to those Christians seeking to lead a chaste single life.
Counseling
the Homosexual by Michael R. Saia, Mike Saia
Review: "A brilliant integration of
the psychology of the homosexual condition with biblical solutions, laid out
step by step for the Christian counselor. I think it is the most solidly
biblical approach to the problem of homosexuality that I have ever read."
Bob Davies, Executive Director of Exodus International
Strength
in Weakness: Overcoming Sexual and Relational Brokenness (Paperback) by
Andrew Comiskey
Andrew Comiskey sees our weakness as "a
threshold for holy power"--the point at which God can meet us for healing
and equip us for service. He has seen it happen again and again. During many
years of ministry, Comiskey, his wife, Annette, and their fellow
"strugglers" have accompanied hundreds of wounded men and women to
transformation at the cross of Christ. Telling real-life stories of despair,
hope and lasting change, Comiskey lays out the foundations for healing from
relational and sexual sin. With chapters focusing on particular areas of
vulnerability for men and women, on the battle over homosexuality in church and
culture, and on the essential role of the church in ongoing healing, Strength
in Weakness makes clear the way to the cross--God's sufficient answer to our
deepest needs.
Pursuing
Sexual Wholeness by Andrew Comiskey
Review: An excellent help for those
struggling with homosexuality. This book gives the reader a greater
understanding of human sexuality from a biblical viewpoint. Easy to read and
understand. An excellent book!
Breaking
Free : Understanding Sexual Addiction & the Healing Power of Jesus
by Russell Willingham, Bob Davies
Review: The author speaks with rare
authority and insight into the complex issues related to sexual addiction. This
is a balanced approach, in that Willingham affirms both the effects of one's
family of origin and the responsibility of the addict to make mature choices.
He writes with compassion, yet with a force that motivates the addict toward
healthy life and relationships. Willingham writes from a Christian perspective,
pointing the reader to the healing power of Jesus Christ. Non-Christian addicts
may or may not wish to acknowledge the power in the Gospel, but I believe even
they will be greatly helped by this remarkable book. A must read for anyone
struggling with sexual addiction in any form.

Christianity,
Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality: Gay People in Western Europe from
the Beginning of the Christian Era to the Fourteenth Century by John Boswell
(1980). Chicago. Now considered a classic pro-gay book. He discusses the
scriptures on p 91-117 (27 pages). He also endorses the inhospitality argument
for Sodom. He looks at the meaning of toevah and bdelygma, as
well as malakoi and arsenokoitai. Argues that Paul thought the
activities were beyond nature rather than against nature. Paul
condemns homosexual acts by apparently heterosexual persons (i.e. perverts not
inverts). He also says that arsenokoitai refers to prostitutes, but he
rejects the idea that Paul is referring to temple prostitutes..
New
Testament and Homosexuality by Robin Scroggs (1983) Fortress. Proposes
the expoitative argument, i.e. pederasty. He is very useful on the social
background and he believes that Paul gets the word arsenokoitai from the
Septuagint translation of Lev 18:22 and 20:13.

Love
Between Women: Early Christian Responses to Female Homoeroticism (The
Chicago Series on Sexuality, History, and Society) (Paperback) by Bernadette J.
Brooten (1996). Academic treatment. Brooton gives a very useful annotated
bibliography on Rom 1:26f and NT and homosexuality generally. Also has a
detailed commentary on Rom 1:18-32 (p 215-302). She does rely too much on the
misogyny argument, but that is not what Paul is talking about, even if that is
what the Hellenistic society believed..
